A Culture of Creativity Woven for All

Last term at NGĀ ART, we had the joy of delivering a very heartwarming projects — the creation and gifting of beautiful Sensory Books, handmade by our incredible Kaumātua Creatives under the guidance of Poto Morgan.

This project came full circle when we recently saw Dylan at Horotiu Primary School exploring one of these special books — a beautiful reminder of the lasting impact creativity can have.

Our Sensory Books are treasures, carefully designed to support essential life skills and fine motor development. They include activities like tying shoelaces, using zippers, buttons, calendars, making ice-creams and matching shapes, along with playful learning about the weather, the alphabet, numbers, animals, colours, food, fruits, and vegetables. Each book was crafted with aroha and skill, and gifted to local schools, daycares, and aged care facilities — helping to make creativity and learning accessible for all corners of our community.

The impact of this project reaches both ways. For the recipients, these books offer opportunities for joyful learning, independence, and hands-on engagement. For our Kaumātua Creatives, the journey of making these books was equally meaningful — bringing a sense of purpose, pride, connection, and the joy of giving back to their community.

At NGĀ ART, we believe that creativity is a living force that connects, empowers, and uplifts. Projects like this highlight the magic of intergenerational sharing and the deep wellbeing that comes from creating something that benefits others.

Through projects like the Sensory Book Project, we continue to live our mission:
He honongā auaha o ngā iwi katoa ~ A culture of creativity woven for all.

We love making a positive difference in every life we touch. Thank you to our Kaumātua Creatives, the schools and facilities receiving these taonga, and everyone who stands with us in believing in the power of creativity to transform and connect communities. Together, we are weaving a vibrant future, one project at a time.
