Celebrate Matariki at NGĀ ART

Kia ora e te whānau,

It’s that special time of year when we pause to reflect, reconnect, and come together with our people, our community, and our whānau. Matariki holds a treasured place in our calendar — a time to honour our stories, celebrate our culture, and ignite hope for the year ahead. At NGĀ ART, we mark this moment through creativity and connection, bringing light into the darkest time of the year. We can’t wait to welcome you to Te Pō Mārama – Matariki ki NGĀ ART, and share the beauty of what we’ve created together.

Join us for a luminous community exhibition, where the walls of Te Whare Toi o Ngāruawāhia will glow with the creativity of our tamariki, rangatahi, pakeke and kaumātua. Together, we’ve been working hard to craft something unforgettable — artworks that honour the mātauranga of Matariki, explore our connection to the awa, and reflect the heartbeat of our community.

Opening Night — Thursday 26 June, 6pm to 9pm

Our opening celebration is full of warmth — firepit glowing, kai from food trucks, music, and of course the first chance to step inside our black-lit gallery of glowing art. All are welcome — come in theme if you’re keen!
