Term 1 at NGĀ ART has been nothing short of inspiring from our kindy tamariki to our Stitched with Love seniors all bringing so much joy to our whare!!! Our creative whānau has grown, our programmes have been full of amazing experiences, and our community continues to show why Ngāruawāhia is such a vibrant place for the arts. Term 1 has set a beautiful tone for the year.

We are super excited to be ending the term on an absolute high with the opening of RECUPERATIONS, the first-ever exhibition in our brand-new The Gallery space. This milestone feels especially meaningful as we open the doors with the work of local artist David Suter. David’s exhibition presents a powerful body of work exploring identity, mental wellbeing, healing, and the emotional landscapes shaped by lived experience and resilience. His expressive drawings and paintings invite viewers to slow down, reflect, and find connection through creativity.
You are all invited to the opening of RECUPERATIONS which opens on the 2nd of April at 6pm to 8pm and runs until 12 April.
The launch of The Gallery represents our commitment to supporting artists—giving them a space to show their work, share their stories, and build confidence in their creative journeys. It is a proud moment for us, and we can’t wait to welcome our community in to celebrate.

As we move toward Term 2, our focus shifts to Matariki – a time of remembrance, celebration, renewal, and shared aspirations. We’re excited to announce our upcoming exhibition, Matariki ki Au, which will bring together a diverse range of community voices and creative expressions honouring the themes of Matariki through textile and fibre arts. This exhibition will sit at the end of our Term 2 programming, alongside workshops and events that encourage reflection, connection, and creativity.
We’re grateful for everyone who has been part of our journey this term artists, participants, supporters, and whānau. Your energy keeps this space thriving.
Here’s to a powerful close to Term 1, a stunning first exhibition in The Gallery, and a meaningful, creative Term 2 ahead.
Ngā mihi nui,
The NGĀ ART Team
